The funding will be provided through the State Coastal Conservancy, allowing the organization to proceed with the purchase from Eureka Energy, a subsidiary of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E).
For decades, the land has been off-limits to the public, but the new conservation plan aims to create recreational opportunities while preserving Native American cultural sites. The Wildlands Conservancy intends to develop a five- to six-mile loop trail, which will be part of a larger 20-mile coastal trail network across the Diablo Canyon Lands.
