Little Andaman Pro 2026 to Showcase India's Surfing Talent
India's top surfers and stand-up paddlers will compete in the inaugural Little Andaman Pro 2026 National Surf and SUP Championship, taking place from April 9 to 12 in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This event, organized by the Surfing Federation of India, serves as crucial preparation for the upcoming Asian Games, where India aims to build on its recent successes in international surfing competitions.
India's elite surfers and stand-up paddlers are gearing up for the inaugural Little Andaman Pro 2026 National Surf and SUP Championship, scheduled from April 9 to 12 in the picturesque Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This championship, organized by the Surfing Federation of India (SFI), is expected to provide essential competition experience ahead of the Asian Games later this year.
The event will feature a Senior Division competition across both Surfing and Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) disciplines, allowing participants to showcase their skills in diverse conditions. This championship is particularly significant as it comes on the heels of India's historic achievement in securing its first-ever Asian Games quota at the 2024 Asian Surfing Championships. Following this, India further solidified its presence in the sport by clinching the maximum allocation of four slots—two each for men and women—at the 2025 edition held in Mahabalipuram.
Arun Vasu, President of SFI, emphasized the importance of providing more competition opportunities for athletes, stating, "We are constantly working to give more competition time to our talented athletes across diverse conditions, which is critical for their growth at the international level."
In addition to the championship, the SFI has announced an expanded 2026 Annual Competition Calendar for Surf and SUP, featuring a greater number of events across the country than ever before. The national circuit will kick off with early-season competitions, starting with the Mumbai SUP Championship in January, followed by significant events in Little Andaman and traditional surfing hubs like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Introducing Longboarding to National Competitions
This year also marks the introduction of the Longboarding Division in the national competition circuit, offering new opportunities for athletes who specialize in classic surfing styles and traditional wave riding techniques. As the competition approaches, anticipation builds among athletes and fans alike, highlighting the growing popularity and development of surfing in India.
Preparing for the Asian Games
The Little Andaman Pro 2026 not only serves as a platform for showcasing talent but also plays a pivotal role in preparing Indian surfers for the challenges they will face at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. With the stakes high and the competition fierce, this championship is an essential stepping stone for athletes looking to make their mark on the international stage.
As the event draws near, the surfing community is eager to witness the skills and determination of India's best surfers and stand-up paddlers, who are set to compete in a vibrant and competitive atmosphere. The success of this championship could further inspire the next generation of surfers in India, fostering a deeper appreciation for the sport and its culture.
