Health authorities are particularly concerned about the potential for rabies, a serious viral disease that can be transmitted through animal bites. In response to this incident, the Westchester County Department of Health has advised anyone who encounters wildlife to maintain a safe distance and to report any animal bites or contacts with potentially rabid animals.

The department emphasized the importance of vigilance in outdoor spaces, especially in areas where wildlife is known to roam. "All animal bites or contacts with animals suspected of having rabies must be reported to the Westchester County Department of Health at (914) 813-5000," they stated. This precaution is vital for public health and safety, particularly in regions where rabies is a concern.
